The incident took place around 2:30 p.m., Monday, Oct. 21, when Trumbull firefighters responded to a home on Rocky Hill Road, said the Trumbull Fire Department on Facebook.

When firefighters arrived on the scene, they found a heavy smoke condition throughout the house and also located at small appliance fire in the basement which was quickly extinguished, the department said.

Prior to the homeowner’s evacuation of the home, they were only able to grab one of their dogs and unable to locate the other.

Fire units located and rescued a black and white dog from behind the couch in the living room area of the home which was filled with smoke, the department said.

Extensive ventilation had to be used to remove the smoke from the home.

The unit was able to wrap up by 4 p.m.

The incident is being investigated by the Fire Marshall's Office.
